Reflections for Advent 2023
A Woman of Courage – Through Advent with Mary
Online reflection series for Advent 2023,
God’s Word comes to earth, and a young woman makes a courageous decision to be part of the story. This series of Advent reflections follows Mary’s journey from the strange invitation, along the hard road to Bethlehem, through pain and joy, and asks what it means to nurture the Holy within ourselves.
This series of weekly Advent reflections offers a new audio reflection to listen to each week along with a selection of other reflective material to read and ponder. The reflections are designed to create quiet spaces in a busy season, and use including poetry, images, music, Scripture and other wisdom writing.
All the printed material for the retreat is available in an attractive A5 booklet – if you would like to receive this, please select this option when you book, and give us your address! Packages are available for small groups, for more information email us info@heartinpilgrimage.org.uk.
The material is designed to appeal to those from all Christian traditions. Whether or not Mary is a central figure in your tradition, this is an invitation to spend time with her as a flesh and blood woman whose courage and faithfulness changed history, and to ask what light her story brings to our lives and our world.

The Cry from the Manger
We only need to glance at the global news to feel the force of suffering in the world. Our own lives too are often weighed down by sorrow, trouble and pain.
For Advent this year, we will reflect on God’s entering into the suffering of the world. Jesus, Emmanuel, was born amongst us, right into the heart of our suffering. Jesus joined us in our suffering, and this Christmas, we incline our ears a little closer to the manger, to hear Christ’s first cry.
